"I have a cult car I want to sell.
what are my options?"

dealer trade-ins

Trading-in a vehicle is one of the easiest ways to get rid of a used car. Consider a standard vehicle produced within the last 10 years -- the difference in value between trading-it-in or selling it yourself is typically in the range of $1,000-3,000. For most people, the convenience of trading it in outweighs the financial benefit of selling it.

When it comes to limited production/modified vehicles the actual market values can vary substantially from the trade-in “book” value. For example, a clean 1999 BMW M3 with 50,000 miles has a Kelly Blue Book Value of $7,972, but the actual market value is closer to $18,000.

When it comes to utilitarian cars with a book value representative of the car’s actual market value, trading-in is a sensible option. But, for specialty cars this is probably one of the worst ways to say goodbye to a car you loved.

Perhaps it’s time to try a different approach...

With the vast majority of vehicles being sold on-line we don’t see the logic in paying to store your car in a warehouse, while it can’t be driven or enjoyed. We believe it makes more sense for our clients to store their own vehicles while we do the marketing

Typical consignment fees are in the range of 12.5% which covers building overhead, salaries and other expenses. Since our overhead is very low we’re able to sell for 6% commission.

Our Sales Process

The Basics of Selling Your Vehicle

When you choose a professional to help sell your vehicle, it's really like hiring a marketing firm. Our job is to know the best way to reach buyers out there -- how to make your vehicle shine, and how to help you offer it at a price that entices the right buyer.

If you want to have buyers competing to buy your vehicle, a little planning up front will go a long way. We’ll be there to guide you through the selling process, alleviating stress while getting you the best sale possible.

Market Intelligence

We make optimum use of market data to help you determine the right price for your vehicle. We look at recent sales data, global inventory and absorption rate to determine a listing price that makes sense.

We provide the market intel to help you determine if your vehicle is currently in a buyers or sellers market — in the end you'll have the knowledge to make an informed decision about whether this is the best time to sell your car or truck.

Be wary of companies who are quick to take your listing and promise big rewards — it won't be long before they start asking for big price reductions!

pre-market shine

When we start working together to sell your vehicle, we create a thorough game plan to insure the process is fun and rewarding. It starts with preparing your car or truck for sale, establishing a timeline and getting your vehicle inspected by a trusted third party repair facility. Once the car has been washed and detailed we schedule a photo shoot with a professional photographer.

When your listing hits the market we want to make an impact. There are hundreds or even thousands of buyers out there who are seeking a vehicle like yours and we want them to have an immediate reaction when they first see the listing. Photos, video, a well-written description... we'll use them all to create a stunning debut.

We include a pre-sale inspection as part of every listing package. Why? Because a mechanic who’s not affiliated with the sale is able to provide valuable insight into a vehicle’s condition which inspires confidence in prospective buyers. When buyers know what they’re getting they’re willing to spend more -- it’s a win-win for all parties.

Purchasing a used vehicle can be risky. When excited buyers get emotionally caught up in a vehicle purchase the tendency is to offer less than they are really willing to pay due to underlying concerns about the real condition of the vehicle. These problems are compounded if the vehicle is located in another city and is being purchased site unseen. To eliminate much of the anxiety and get an accurate picture of the condition of the vehicle, many buyers choose to have a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) completed before the sale is finalized.

We'll gather all of your important paperwork, including the vehicle's title, repair invoices, and receipts for parts and/or accessories.

A complete carfax report is included with your listing at no additional charge.

Wash & Detail

Please have your car spotless and detailed for the photoshoot. If cleaning isn’t your thing let us know and we’ll send out a mobile detailer.

Professional Photoshoot

We use professional photography and video to tell the story of your car. Utilizing unique rural and urban landscapes we’re able to create a professional and captivating portfolio of images that are magazine worthy. When your listing hits the market we want to make an impact.

Other consignors typically shoot every car in a warehouse. The images of your car would look just like the images of every other car they’re selling. We aim to create an emotional connection with your target audience.

A basic video walk-around is included with our photography services, but certain cars are selected for a unique test drive video, which will be featured on our YouTube channel, website and within social media accounts.

We coordinate professional photography and video for your vehicle

We select from a variety of interesting locations to shoot your car.

We provide refreshments to enjoy in the company of other enthusiasts while vehicles are being photographed.

Hero shot - A graphically enhanced image, reminiscent of automotive ads from the 1980’s and 1990’s is offered at no additional charge.

Marketing Your Vehicle

Each vehicle we consigns has a unique story to tell, and we aim to share that story through a multi-dimensional marketing platform which begins here on  the Cult Cars website and within our social media accounts. We also market our consignments to our affiliates in Europe and throughout the internet on sites like: Hemmings, Classic Driver, Auto Trader, Craigslist, Car Gurus,, Auto Trader Classic, Ebay and Bring a Trailer.

Many of the cars we sell appeal to a devoted audience of enthusiasts. We've had success direct marketing our consignments through vehicle specific forums and Facebook user groups. With each new consignment we look at the options and determine a placement strategy to get your car in front of the right group of buyers. For example, if we're selling your 1999 BMW M3 we may run an ad in Autotrader while concurrently plugging the E36 Facebook group with colorful photos of your car, directing perspective buyers to an Ebay or BAT auction. Or, if you've consigned a rare vintage race car we might insert an ad in Hemmings to promote an auction listing with Bonhams or Sothebys.

When you choose a professional to help sell your vehicle, it's really like hiring a marketing firm. Our job is to know the best way to reach buyers out there -- how to make your product shine, and how to help you offer it at a price that entices the right purchaser.
