In the late 1980s, the Z1 debuted as the first model in BMW’s then-new Z-series of roadsters. Maybe a few of you know that the Z letter originally stood for Zukunft, the German word for future. The model remained in production from March 1989 to June 1991, during which only 8,000 units were made. The Z1 is powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six engine mated to a five-speed manual Getrag gearbox. Unique to this vehicle are the plastic body panels and vertically sliding doors that drop into the door sills, and it is one of the first BMWs to use a multi-link rear suspension. The powertrain generates a peak output of 168 horsepower. There’s not much information from the seller on this particular example, however, Cult Cars has one available for sale through one of our affiliates in Spain.
