highlights
This Escort RS Cosworth is one of the early versions of the 7,145 units ever produced. It’s equipped with a larger factory turbocharger, and combined with the all-wheel drive, Recaro motorsport seats, power sunroof, and upgraded audio… this car is sure to plaster a grin on your face.
This car is one of the early "homologation specials," used to get the FIA accreditation in group A rallying and is fitted with an oversized Garrett T3/T04B Hybrid turbo (also known as the T34) and air/water intercooler. These units displayed significant turbo lag below 3500rpm, but when the turbo wakes up the Escort RS Cosworth is reminiscent of a Group B car with savage entry of turbo boost. is reminiscent of a Group B car with savage entry of turbo boost.

heritage
In the early 1990s, rally racing gave birth to a plethora of high-tech, turbocharged machines, especially from the Japanese, with cars like the Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru STI, and Toyota Celica GT-Four. The Escort RS Cosworth was Europe’s way of fighting back.

The car was just as high-tech as its Asian rivals, except it had a Ford badge, which made it appear like a genuine home-team effort for European fans. This version of the Escort was, of course, not sold in America, nor was rally racing as popular west of the Atlantic ocean. But in Europe, it was the textbook definition of “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.”

This Cosworth was built as a "Lux" model, which includes a fully-functional power sunroof and Hex Recaro seats instead of the leather option which is typically seen with the Lux edition. An aftermarket stereo and alarm system have been retrofitted to the interior. The seats show average wear and everything works as it should.

The ash black paint appears to be original. Professional detailing was completed after the car arrived and the paint shows very well. There is a very small imperfection on the driver's side where a door ding was removed with PDR. We installed Morrette projector-style headlights and installed a set of 17" Compomotive TH wheels to complete the period rally look.

Classic200, a specialty car facility located in Aurora, CO, completed a thorough evaluation of the car and made several minor repairs including replacing the front right axle, changing the oil and filter, and replacing the battery and ground wire connection. MaxAir, located in Centennial, CO, made the air conditioning operable.
