2016 BMW M4 Hardtop convertible

T-5R don't hit the market very often. When they emerge they tend to be garage queens or clapped-out daily drivers.

Designated as the F82, the M4 arrived in 2015 and continued through 2018.The first-gen M4 largely followed the evolutionary path of its four-door sedan sibling until 2018, when the M3 sedan was discontinued. The M4 is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 425 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque in factory trim. This car is fitted with a seven-speed automated manual (M-DCT) featuring integrated launch control and automatic rev-matching on downshifts. The current owner of this M4 wanted more power and a throaty exhaust note and had Paddock Imports of Denver, CO install a tune from Noelle Performance. Noelle’s founder is the former head of engine development at world renowned BMW tuner Alpina. The tune increases engine output from 431 to 560 hp. We’ve driven the car and can attest to the incredible difference in power.

From a handling perspective the M4's suspension delivers a livable balance between ride compliance and canyon carver. The ride is firm but completely acceptable for daily use, while the handling is of course massively capable, aided by highly responsive steering and a trick active differential that distributes power to the appropriate side depending on myriad variables. The massive 4 piston brakes work well, delivering fade-resistant stopping power and elegant aesthetics with M monogram calipers. Step into the cockpit of this sleek convertible and you’ll appreciate a complete carbon fiber interior upgrade package, Harmon Kardon surround sound featuring an added CarPlay feature, heated seats, a heads up display and let’s not forget the engineering marvel which is the retractable hard top.

In total the current owner spent approximately $15K with the following upgrades:

  • Ceramic Coating (interior and exterior)

  • Ceramic tint

  • Upgraded crank hub

  • Noelle Performance tune

  • Wireless CarPlay adapted to the factory head unit

  • Impact PPF on front clip and rear impact zones.

A clean CarFax shows two previous owners in Texas with no major services and only regular oil changes. The current owner purchased the car in February 2021 and has covered approximately 10K miles with the car. We understand the car has only been garage kept, driven on sunny days and he reports only using premium gas and full synthetic oil.

When asked what you’ll miss about the car, he said “the whole thing – the performance, the enjoyment, the sound and effortless acceleration.” With a recent decision to change career paths the car is now available for sale.

heritage

The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series coupes and convertibles developed by BMW's motorsport division. The M4 replaced the BMW M3 coupé and convertible models for 2014. Upgrades over the standard BMW 4 Series included an upgrades to the engine, suspension, exhaust system, and brakes.

The M4 is based on the F32 4 Series however half of its components are unique. The convertible variant of the M4 was announced along with its coupe sibling, also internally known as F82 or F83 M4. It shares almost everything with the coupé version, but weighs more due to its folding metal roof. The convertible weighs 1,750 kg (3,858 lb) (manual), 1,691 kg and 3,728 lb with the M-DCT. The three-piece retractable hardtop folds in 20 seconds and becuase of its extra weight the convertible requires an exstra 0.3 seconds longer to reach 100 km/h (62 mph).

photographer's notes

I seem to have the hots for BMW M cars made in 2016. I fell in love with the Jahre M3 we consigned a while back and didn’t think that feeling could be replicated. This M4 did just that. It looks fantastic and the color is beautiful. The handling is excellent and the car is an absolute joy to drive around. The paddle shifters shift crisply and the raspy exhaust note of the car is addicting when rev-matching. Power comes on smooth and once that boost hits, hold on. Passing cars on the highway is a breeze. The car itself is in great shape, the interior shows minimal signs of wear, and all buttons function as they should. The sound system bumps as well. If you want more air, the hardtop convertible is great. The car literally transforms in front of you and it’s quite nifty how the roof packs itself up. There are no major scratches or damage on the car. There are two small dents on the passenger side front quarter panel and a few scuffs on the front lower bumper as shown in the images. The wheels are perfect, with zero curb rash. This car is super clean and you can tell the owner took great care of it.
