Overview
The Sierra RS Cosworth is the epitome of 1980’s cool, with it’s definitive whale tail and 2.0 Liter turbocharged engine, this was the first Ford to be adorned with a Cosworth name badge. The two companies had been working together since the 1960’s, when theAmerican car producer funded the development of a 3-litre V8 engine for Lotus’s F1 car. The resulting V8 went on to be a dominant engine in Formula 1 for over a decade, winning 155 Grand Prix races. Cosworth also developed a four-cylinder engine for Ford’s racing and rallying cars in the late ‘60s and ‘70s.
The basis for the SIerra RS is the famed YB power plant, the same motor that went on to power the Escort RS Cosworth. Coupled with a five-speed Borg-Warner gearbox the Cosworth YB engine sent torque to a rear axle fitted with a viscous-coupling limited-slip differential and made 204 bhp. The Sierra could accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.2sec and hit an official top speed of 150mph.
The Cosworth’s basic chassis is still much the same as a regular Sierra’s, with MacPherson strut front axle and semi-trailing arm rear set up. However, it was tweaked and tuned with different spring rates, dampers and anti-roll bars by Ford's Special Vehicle Engineering division.

Heritage
In 1987 the Cossie hit the track to compete against the likes of the Mercedes 190’s and BMW M3’s. It didn’t take long to start accumulating victories which included, the Monroe British Championship and the Nürburgring 24 hour race. Success could also be found in rallying where the Sierra managed to take a 3rd place finish at the Manx against more powerful Group B machines.
The 3-door Sierra produced from 1985-1988 is the most sought-after version, with the RS500 being the ultimate spec, commanding prices north of $150K in today’s collectors car market. Ushering in the 1990’s the 3 door Sierra was replaced by its 4 door sibling which had more power and four wheel drive, but today those cars trade for about half the value. North America never got the Sierra, and for those who have the pleasure of seeing one up close they often mistake the car for its American cousin, the Merkur XR4ti. The Merkur shares some common underpinnings but is not the same vehicle – it’s considerably less powerful and has an awkwardly designed rear window.

Interior A+
The Sierra’s interior is in great overall condition with no noticeable rips, tears, or stains. The interior features a period correct stereo along with factory gauges with the odometer reading in KM. All functions work as intended and the dash is free of cracks, warping or other flaws.
Exterior A+
Outside, the Cossi presents beautifully, with Diamond white paint that is one of the most desirable of the 3 colors. The Sierra offers unmistakable 1980's styling while the whale tail gives it race inspired athletic look.
Mechanical A+
After receiving $25,000 worth of service over the past two years, this Cossie runs and drives beautifully. Power from the 2.0 liter turbocharged Cosworth motor comes on strong with typical retro-style turbo lag. The transmission shifts smoothly and with a light action, especially once up to temperature. The car idles well and holds proper temperature without issue.
