Overview
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth remains an iconic vehicle in the world of performance cars. Born out of Ford's rallying prowess, this hot hatchback became an instant classic, combining a distinctive rally-inspired design with impressive power and handling capabilities.
This particular car was built by world-renowned Cosworth specialist, Romain Oppliger, owner of Oppliger Motorsports. His attention to detail is unmatched and the quality of this build is evident throughout the vehicle. Not much has been left untouched with an estimated total for this build coming in around $50K.
The aggressively stanced Escort features a distinctive rear spoiler and flared wheel arches, giving the car a purposeful appearance. The whale-tail spoiler not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also serves a functional purpose by providing increased downforce at high speeds. The flawless white paint resembles an early motorsport version Escort, before team liveries were applied to factory-backed rally cars. At the corners you'll find 18" Compomotive TH wheels, and tucked behind motorsport wheels are a set of Tarox big brakes -- which have immense stopping power. Intrax suspension and a complete Powerflex bushing kit round out the suspension, keeping things tidy during heavy cornering.
Under the hood, you’ll find a comprehensive list of modifications, with each part complementing the entire build. What you end up with is a robust platform capable of being driven hard. Some of the highlights include a Borg Warner EFR 7670 turbo, a T4 stainless steel and ceramic coated exhaust manifold, a forged bottom end, an ECUMaster ECU, a larger intercooler, and a motorsports radiator with silicon hoses. The car was recently outfitted with a flex-fuel set up to achieve maximum power. Steve Sampier, the owner of Divulge Motorsports, recently dyno tuned the car with power output reaching 607 horsepower to the wheel (700+ horsepower at the crank).
Inside the cabin, the Escort RS Cosworth offers a driver-centric environment. Racing-inspired Recaro bucket seats, a three-spoke Sparco steering wheel, racing pedals, and a performance-oriented instrument cluster create an immersive driving experience. Current ownership also added a digital dash computer offering just about every possible read-out you could ask for. Beneath the dash computer is a a red kill switch for quick emergency shut off's. An anaologue boost gauge is also installed and next to it are two small switches -- one for fan for auxiliary fan while the other enables anti-lag. The interior design reflects a perfect balance between functionality and comfort, ensuring that the driver feels connected to the car at all times.

History & Maintenance
In the early 2000's, Martin Malmson from Sweden, built this car was to achieve the objective of creating a car that would dominate on the track and the street. He succeeded in creating a 600 HP monster that terrorized local tracks in Sweden. He sold the car circa 2021. It moved from Sweden to Belgium, then onto the Netherlands where lived it for a brief period with Eric Roos, the owner of a collector car dealership in Helmond, NL.
In 2022 we imported the Cossie for one of our clients in central Tennessee. He acquired a total of 3 Escort Cosworth’s that year. A year later the car was shipped to Denver and sold to a new owner. During the custodianship of the new owner the car was enhanced by Steve Sampier, owner of Divulge Motorsports, a skilled tuner and race car builder. He added flex-fuel, larger injectors and enhanced the engine mapping -- the result is a whopping 600 wheel horse power. In addition to the massive gain in power we added a dash mounted digital monitor with just about every possible readout you could ever want!

Heritage
In the early 1990s, rally racing gave birth to a plethora of high-tech, turbocharged machines, especially from the Japanese, with cars like the Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru STI, and Toyota Celica GT-Four. The Escort RS Cosworth was Europe’s answer, going on to achieve 10 World Rally Championship (WRC) victories between 1993 and 1997.
The car was just as high-tech as its Asian rivals, except it had a Ford badge, which made it appear like a genuine home-team effort for European fans. A total of 7,145 Ford Escort RS Cosworth's were produced between February 1992, and January 1996. While only 2,500 units were initially required for homologation to meet world rally regulations, high demand led to an increased production run. The cars were manufactured by Karmann in Rheine, Germany.

Interior A
Interior is in excellent condition with no tears or stains. All switches and controls work as they should. There is no radio or air conditioning
Exterior A+
Exterior is in phenomenal condition. The paint surface is nearly flawless. There are no scratches, dents, cracks nor is there any sign of rust on the vehicle.
Mechanical A+
The vehicle operates as it should and does so nicely. Power comes on strong and the steering is tight. A few rattles here and there, but that is to be expected of a car like this.

Photographer's notes
This car is gorgeous in person and easily the coolest example I’ve come across. The mods are tastefully done and nothing over the top every mod has a purpose on this car. I couldn’t see any blemishes worth noting. Handling is tight and responsive. The brakes are quite touchy and grip hard. The turbo lag is noticeable, but once the power comes on you better be ready. This car draws a ton of attention as well as thumbs ups. A really cool and unique car with a blend of rally history and performance.
