John Cooper Works GP

The GP is a limited-edition track ready car that blurs the lines between the standard John Cooper Works hardtop Mini and a Mini Challenge race car. Capped at 2000 units world wide, of which, only 500 are in the US. This upgraded Mini is an absolute joy to drive, the car handles like it’s on rails and accelerates about as quickly as it can stop. This particular example has a plethora of modifications which enhance the driving experience and visually make a statement. Looking at the car you’ll notice the Anthracite OZ Alleggeritah wheels wrapped in 205/45/R17 Pirelli Cinturato P7’s, peeking out at you are the massive red 13-inch vented front discs and six-piston fixed calipers. The JCP aero kit adds a nice bit of aggressiveness to the well rounded Mini. In addition, the car has a lot of nicely nuanced carbon fiber bits that all work perfectly. Inside the car, leather Recaro Racing seats keep you planted throughout acceleration and the twisties. You’ll find your average creature comforts, and nothing more. The 2 seater forfeits the rear seats from the factory for a burley rear sway bar. The previous owner added roughly $9,000 in modifications, the mod list above is quite comprehensive, each part was well thought out and professionally installed by MADNESS Autoworks in California.

The Heritage Mini Cooper is a modern tribute to the classic Mini, a British icon of automotive history. The original Mini, launched in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), revolutionized car design with its front-wheel-drive layout and compact, efficient use of space. The Mini Cooper, introduced in the 1960s, was a high-performance version created in collaboration with racing legend John Cooper, which became famous for its racing successes, including wins at the Monte Carlo Rally.

The Mini Cooper has had a significant cultural impact since its inception. It became a symbol of the 1960s British pop culture, associated with celebrities, fashion, and the swinging sixties. The Heritage Mini Cooper continues this legacy, appealing to both classic car enthusiasts and a new generation of drivers. Its iconic status is celebrated in various forms of media, including films like "The Italian Job," which showcased the Mini Cooper's agility and charm.

Interior                 A-

The interior of the Mini presents very well. It’s clean and free of almost any defects. The only flaws we could find was some very minor wear on the outside bolsters of the driver’s seat. All of the buttons, gauges, work as intended.

Exterior                A-

The Mini’s exterior presents well with minor blemishes in the paint consistent with age and mileage. The paint is bright and vibrant and shows the sleek lines of the Mini beautifully. As seen in the photos, there are some minor scuffs noted on the rear bumper. Most of the front of the car has PPF on it as well.

Mechanical           A

This Mini GP runs and drives as it should. The engine pulls hard and the transmission shifts quickly quickly with the added short shifter. There are no discernable squeaks or rattles, nor any mechanical sounds to worry about. The KW V3’s aren’t quite as rough as you’d think! The car is super stiff and is planted on the road.  A 30,000-mile service was performed in June 2024.

Photographer's notes

This car was awesome to drive around to during the photo shoot. It got a lot of head nods and extended looks. The paint color is wicked in the sun and I love how the carbon fiber pieces tie everything together. They aren’t overdone like carbon fiber tends to get if left unchecked. The car pulls hard and stops even harder, the brakes are a little noisy but I’m sure swapping a more street friendly compound will fix that easily. Sport mode is an absolute riot, you get all the exhaust sounds and pops and bangs. I had a grin on my face, but I can see how you could get in trouble with this car. Super cool example of a daily driver / take it to the track car.
