Overview

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a truly special automobile. It blends luxury, passion, and practicality in a way few other vehicles can touch. With its sports car-like power and chassis dynamics, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio set a sub-8 minute lap time at the famed Nürburgring, a lap record for SUVs at the time. These unique qualities make the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio one of the best all-around vehicles out there.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio shares its seductive 2.9L twin-turbo V6 with the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan. In both vehicles, this Ferrari-derived powerplant produces 505-hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, good enough to propel this super SUV from 0-60 MPH in an astounding 3.6 seconds! Power is routed through an 8-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission to Alfa Romeo’s Q4 AWD system. Through the strategic use of lightweight materials, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio maintains nearly a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. With a top speed of 176 MPH, there isn’t another SUV available today that can go this fast for less money.

As with many vehicles today, the Stelvio features a rotary dial for changing drivetrain and chassis characteristics. Called the DNA Pro Drive System, this dial allows the driver to change between Dynamic (sportiest), Natural (daily driver friendly), and Advanced Efficiency (for maximum fuel economy) modes. Further, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio offers a Race Mode which enables an over-boost function, sharper handling and throttle response, and a throatier exhaust note from the dual-mode exhaust. Race Mode also disables traction and stability control to allow the driver to get the absolute most out of the vehicle.

This particular Stelvio Quadrifoglio is presented in Montecarlo Blue Metallic paint and features the optional carbon fiber-backed Sparco Racing Seats and Brembo Ultra High-Performance Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Other features include a huge panoramic sunroof, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, and the optional 900-watt, 14-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system with Logic 7 surround sound.

Heritage

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a high-performance SUV that is part of the Alfa Romeo heritage, known for its racing history and Italian craftsmanship. The "Quadrifoglio" badge, which means "four-leaf clover" in Italian, is a symbol of racing success for Alfa Romeo. The Quadrifoglio badge has its origins in the early 1920s when Ugo Sivocci, an Italian racing driver, painted a four-leaf clover on his Alfa Romeo race car. This was believed to bring good luck, and Sivocci won the Targa Florio race in 1923. Unfortunately, he lost his life in a racing accident later that year.

In honor of Sivocci, the Quadrifoglio Verde (Green Four-leaf Clover) became a symbol for Alfa Romeo's high-performance models. The tradition continues, and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is one such model that embodies the spirit of performance, speed, and racing heritage associated with Alfa Romeo. It features a powerful engine, sporty design, and advanced technology, making it a standout in the luxury SUV segment.

Interior                 A-

The interior of the Stelvio presents very well. It’s clean and free of almost any defects. The only flaws we could find was some minor wear on the outside bolsters of the driver’s seat and some superfluous cracks in the carbon fiber trim above the glove box. All of the buttons, gauges, work as intended.

Exterior                A-

The Stelvio’s exterior presents well with minor blemishes in the paint consistent with age and mileage. The paint is bright and vibrant and shows the sleek lines of the Stelvio beautifully. As seen in the photos, there are some minor scuffs noted on the front and rear bumpers, as well as a couple of scuffs on the left front wheel.

Mechanical           A

This Stelvio Quadrifoglio runs and drives as it should. The engine pulls hard and the transmission shifts quickly. There are no discernable squeaks or rattles, nor any mechanical sounds to worry about. A 30,000-mile service was performed in April 2023.

Photographer's notes

It was an absolute pleasure to drive and photograph this gorgeous machine. Alfa Romeo’s styling language has almost always been gorgeous and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, with its sensual lines, intricate wheels, and hunkered-down stance, is no exception. I genuinely believe that the Stelvio is one of the all-time great daily drivers. You get a sportscar-like driving experience, plenty of space, and the traction and ground clearance of an SUV. With this particular example, the bright blue metallic paint looks phenomenal, almost glowing when it catches the sun. I LOVE the wheel design, with its delicate, highly styled spokes not doing much to hide the bright yellow Brembo calipers and carbon ceramic rotors. Although heated seats might be desirable in colder climates, the carbon-backed Sparco bucket seats are amazing! They hug my 5’11” frame in all the right places while still being comfortable. As an added bonus, the back seat fits adults comfortably and the trunk has plenty of room too. Most importantly with an über-SUV like this, it absolutely rips once you begin to prod the twin-turbo V6. Although it can’t quite match the wail of the best Italian power plants, this one has a distinctive and thrilling bark of its own. The suspension feels tight and responsive but doesn’t beat you up on anything other than the worst of roads. If I had the means, I would buy this for myself in a heartbeat.
